Austell woman accused of leaving kids with stove on

AUSTELL — An Austell woman left her stove on and her two children alone when she left for work Wednesday morning, police said.

Mercedes Behena, 33, left for work just after 8 a.m. with her two children still asleep in their Whispering Woods Apartment Complex unit, according to police.

After receiving a 911 call, the Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the complex to find the apartment surrounded in smoke and heard the children’s cries, investigators said.

Emergency personnel rescued the children and took them to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released to state custody, police said.

Behena was arrested on charges of reckless conduct and child neglect. However, she was not listed in the Cobb County Jail’s records.

At least she was working. Why do you people not rant and rave about all the citizens (black and white) that sit on their lazy behinds all day and scam the government. I stand behind a lot more of them at the grocery store with their EBT cards than Hispanics. Besides, I thought this was supposed to be a story about neglect, not illegal aliens.

Hispanics use the food stamp cards more often than any other group - and are working for cash or with false documents - not paying taxes on thse earnings.

I did Medicaid audits. It is sickening the percentage of kids covered by Medicaid, arriving in big new trucks.

In case you folks haven't heard Mr. Obama has just given the illegals another free pass. This administration needs to go or we will not recognize this country in the next few years!

Maybe the INS should raid all the apartments on Six Flags drive. Might clear out a few of the illegals and this sort of irresponsibilty!!!

The children need to go back with her to whatever third world country she sneaked out of. The news last night said she was here illegally.

We need to know exactly who hired her. Then, the apartment dwellers who lost their possessions should sue that employer.

We need to demand that employers pay the price for their reckless behavior when they hire criminal aliens who do not follow any laws here, including the decency of taking care of the children you birthed to receive the jackpot welfare money.

There are so many things wrong here. First, she left two small children alone and left the stove on. Second, she may be here illegally. Third, she has a job. If she is here illegally, I suggest they find out who hired her, then fine them. Next, send her back to her country or lock her up here for a few years. I'm not sure what should be done about her children. What a mess.
