The restaurant first opened on Windy Hill Road in 2003. Its motto is, “Life should be less ordinary.” It achieves that goal with service and a fun, down-to-earth atmosphere.
“We wanted our guests to feel that this was a place they could come everyday but a place that would still feel special to them,” said Mandy Slater, who founded and owns the company with her husband, Kelvin.
With great success, Blue Moon Pizza expanded to other locations, including Vinings, Buckhead and Sandy Springs. Although pizza is the signature dish, the full service also serves sandwiches, salads, appetizers and homemade desserts.
“We don’t want people to feel like they’re settling for something and that they’re not really getting their money’s worth,” she said. “People shouldn’t feel like they’re in a pizzeria when they dine in our restaurant. We want them to feel like they’re getting a treat and in a nice restaurant even though we have casual food and a casual atmosphere.”
Slater said she wants the food to not only look good but taste good. “We take things that are pretty common and add something a little extra to it so it has that wow factor when it comes to the table,” she said.
Slater recommends the Sante Fe chicken pizza to the adventurous guest wanting to try something other than the classic pizza. Its ingredients are seasoned black beans, chicken, jalapeno peppers, red onions, spicy ranch, cilantro, fresh avocado and house cheese. She said, “It’s a little spicier. It’s something you won’t get other places.”
Slater also suggests the Luna, Blue Moon Pizza’s pizza sauce topped with chorizo sausage, caramelized onions, jalapenos, spicy ranch, black olives, cilantro, and the house cheese blend. She also said Grandma’s Pizza, a 16-inch Sicilian-style dish, is a “must-try” dish.
Blue Moon Pizza also offers Take-and-Bakes, made fresh to order and can be baked at home. Take-and-Bakes stay fresh in the refrigerator for three days.
The eatery lives up to its mission of giving people an everyday place that still feels special. “This is not just about pizza,” Slater said.
