MARIETTA — Marietta Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck isn’t sure what her district will do with a $10,000 donation it received from Ed Voyles Automotive Group on Tuesday, but one thing is certain: They are grateful for it.

“This is the first time they have presented Marietta City Schools with this special donation,” Lembeck said. “It is really a wonderful, generous and unexpected honor.”

During the school district’s annual Teacher of the Year and Employee Awards event, Ed Voyles’ President and Chief Operating Officer Bill Brantley and Chairman and CEO Valery Voyles presented the check to Lembeck.

“We understand that school systems are under financial pressure,” Brantley said after the event. “Dr. Lembeck is an incredible leader, and she’s been great in managing (the district) through some of the budgetary constraints.”

Brantley said that Lembeck being selected Georgia’s Superintendent of the Year contributed to their donation.

“We wanted to do something to honor her commitment to the schools and her leadership, and we knew that the schools could use it,” he said. “We want them to know that we’re all in … we want to help the education community.”

His company has sponsored the ceremony for the last five years.

Lembeck said the district hasn’t determined how to use the money, but “consideration will be given to my ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining the literacy skills of all students.”

During that same ceremony, a number of awards were given out, including the 2013 Marietta City Schools Teacher of the Year award, which was given to David DuBose at Marietta High.

The school-level 2013 Teachers of the Year were Shannon Burch, A.L. Burruss Elementary; Lori Haakenson, Dunleith Elementary; Patricia Moran, Hickory Hills Elementary; Noura Soued, Lockheed Elementary; Kara Householder, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics; Sharon Worley, Park Street Elementary; Susan Pleak, Sawyer Road Elementary; Cynthia Westlake, West Side Elementary; Matthew Forrester, Marietta Sixth Grade Academy; and Justin Waller, Marietta Middle.

The district also recognized their 2012 winners for Outstanding New Employees, Outstanding Employee Support Employees, Outstanding Certified Employees, Customer Service Excellence Award, Class E-Tech Awards, Superintendent’s Awards, Board Appreciation Awards and the Employee of the Year.

You must be an old marietta person to think that... shows that her cronies really do worship her... ask other people in the system and they will say she is as useless as Pickett, Hibbs, and the rest of the CO crew

Agree 100% - Dr. Lembeck is amazing. It's a shame some people are so grumpy.
