DEAR EDITOR:

Bill Press’ article on same-sex marriage in the May 14, 2012, MDJ talks about “those who try to hide their bigotry behind the Bible.” Bill’s Bible must be like President Thomas Jefferson’s Bible where he cut out only the parts of the Bible that he accepted, kept them and discarded those he didn’t accept. Press apparently cut out Revelation 22:18-19 which shows the penalty for this “surgery.”

Press wrote, “Nowhere in the Bible does God say marriage must only be between one man and one woman.” He shouldn’t have cut out Matthew 19:4-6 which “God with us” who is Jesus, states that Bill’s diatribe is completely false and detrimental to those who accept it as fact.

For those who are interested in finding Bible truth should go to the full Bible rather than accepting Press’s adulterated one.

Storey is violating the Revelation passage he quoted when he tries to imply that the Matthew quotation refers to homosexuality, when in effect it is commandment regarding divorce. Divorce being one Christianity's most common of their many sins against Jesus's word, I should think Mr. Storey would be more concerned about that aspect than his wild assertation that this scripture concerns gay marriage.

Appearently you can have it both ways! Christians who misquote and misrepresent Jefferson for their own purposes in destroying the wall of separation between church and state now condemn Jefferson's attempt to extract the pure principals that Jesus taught in the form of Jefferson Bible (The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazereth). Perhaps if more Christians followed this principal there would be less hatred, and bigotry and more love and compassion as Jesus taught.

Mr. Storey,

In the United States, your religious beliefs of what is a marriage should not be forced onto a person who does not believe the way you do. I do not think anywhere in our recorded, man made Constitution or Bill of Rights does it say marriage is between a man and a woman only. It is each state that decides that and I am not so sure each state should decide what is a marriage.

As a Christian, who is a member of a local Southern Baptist Convention church, I do not want other denomination's beliefs forced upon me by the federal government of the United States or the local governments. What a gay couple does or believes does not affect my marriage or my actions. I have gay friends and what you or I perceive as a sin, like homosexuality or marriage between like sexes, is no greater sin than lying.

There is only one sin greater than any other sin and you know what that is.

No shrimp for Jim I guess. Also, make sure Jim doesn't see you working on Sunday, he might just throw a rock at your head as the Lord commanded.

Think of Jim's unfortunate father and mother! Jim hates them so much, as commanded by God's Word © in Luke 14:26.

Leviticus 11:9-12 for shrimp being an abomination

Exodus 31:14: Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death

I wish I was making this stuff up, trust me.

I wonder if this letter-writer keeps all of the laws of the Torah. Check his shirt for polyester-cotton blends! Does he have a menstruation hut for his wife to live in when they are menstruating? If so, I applaud his strict adherence. If not, he's as much of a hypocrite as he accuses the president of being.
