Here is this week’s big scoop. Until recently, SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center were bound by a confidential agreement with the producers of Food Network’s Chopped for almost a year. Justin Balmes, a local chef, who participated in SafePath’s Culinary Tour last year (featured in Lifestyle on June 3, 2011) chose SafePath as his charity when appeared on “Chopped.”

The show will air on April 22, and Balmes will discuss his decision. The SafePath logo will also be shown on the show.

SafePath has scheduled its 2012 Culinary Tour and Competition for Aug. 23. It will be called “Good Eats,Great Cause....a SafePath Culinary Tour & Competition.”

Chopped is a cooking competition between four chefs who have 30 minutes to plan and 30 minutes to cook a course using ingredients given to them in a mystery basket. A panel of three judges critiques the courses. Course by course, a chef is “chopped” from the competition until a winner remains.

Ted Allen hosts the show. For more information, visit www.foodnetwork.com.

For the third consecutive year, the Honeybee, located at 2698 Atlanta Road in Smyrna, is proud to be a part of TOMS One Day Without Shoes campaign.

This year’s One Day event is Tuesday. On this day, TOMS is asking the world to go one day without shoes, whether it is the entire day or only a few hours, to experience first-hand what it would be like to live a life with bare feet. TOMS has become wellknown for its campaign to give shoes to needy children throughout the world.

The company was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One.

When learning of this special event, owners of the honeybee, Betsy Digiorgio and Lisa Rieves knew they wanted to be a part of this unique day. Not only will they and their employees go barefoot for the day, they are taking it a “step” further by offering 50 percent off any style Kavu bag with the purchase of a pair of TOMS. This offer will only be valid Tuesday and can not be combined with any other discount.

Call the store at (770) 432-5120 for more information. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
