Wrong to use Martin death for political gain

DEAR EDITOR:

My heart breaks for the Tayvon Martin family in the death of their young son. I cannot fathom the sorrow, anger, and despair they are feeling in this needless tragedy. Finding adequate words seems so futile when trying to express care and sympathy to this family. Our family sends our love and prayers and hope that the Martins stay close to God during this terrible time.

The inferred meaning of Al Sharpton’s shameful remark, “We love our children the same as you love your children” is totally uncalled for. It’s so wrong to use such a tragedy to enhance one’s political position.

Ah give it up. Nobody really cares. Young black men kill each other everyday. It isn't news. So, this guys dead. His family is upest. Folks all over want justice. So, they get a trial? In a week or two, hundreds of thugs will have killed each other. Jesse, Al, and the gang wont say a word. And hundreds more will be born with no hope cuz their momma aint but a teen anyway and cant afford em. The cycle goes on. And, like I said, nobody cares becuase they, themselves, will not change the pattern.

You gotta love a Black African American like Al Sharpton. Like his brothers who sold there neighbors into slavery to really white white guys for use in picking cotton in the US, he has successfully promoted and profitted from the nonsense talk that enslaves a very large portion of the black community to the piddly hand out from a government welfare office...and yet very few Black African Americans, Black people, African Americans, White Black people, White Negroes (collectively referred to hereinafter as "Black Folks") ever call them (the slave traders of old Africa or Al Sharpton of today) out or hold them responsible for promoting (and profiting from) the enslavement of Black folks to the white man/white mans government handout system.

Until black folks realize that there is more to them than the color of their skin, they will always be slaves to the dimwits like Al Sharpton and a government hand out.

I have to agree with anonymous.

I think a certain comedian uses this example.

A woman dresses up like a prostitute.

Goes to a bar.

Guys start approaching her and propositioning her as if she is a prostitute.

Then she objects and is insulted for being mistaken for a prostitute,

How can you blame the guys who made that logical conclusion?

She's wearing the "uniform" of a prostitute. So what does she expect?

Same goes for young black men these days. If they want to go around looking like gangstas' then they can't really complain to loudly when they are mistaken for gangstas'

And after all, isn't that really the look they are going for? Isn't that what they are trying to fool people into believing? That they are law breaking thugs!!

They are intentionally trying to illicit "profiling" responses and then when it happens they cry profiling and racism.

Hmmm - a "white" hispanic??? Could this man be labeled this way because the libs in government, media, and protest (riot) instigators do not want any kind of targeted people to be hispanics? Seems if this is the case, the presidnet should now be known as a "white african American". Amazing how some will rely on "race" when it is to their advantage, but ignore it when it is not.

Are you kiddin! Trained cops do not shoot people for looking suspicions that's probable why Zimmerman wasn't a cop. "Not fair, but that's the way it is"! Blacks make you feel uncomfortable so you have the right to shoot them based on your dislike for their dress, music, culture and your belief that young black men are involved in violent crime. Glad you can admit your racial prejudice, that doesn't make it right, but to act on it is the definition of racial profiling and a hate crime. Trevan Martin deserves justice, the Sanford Police do not determine innocence or guilt, thats the job of a jury. Zimmerman is free, he still has his 9MM and the Sanford Police are either complicit or incompetent.

You are characterizing logic and walking around common sense based on reality as racial prejudice.

You have made a huge leap and gone from the reason that cops and law abiding citizens might have a reasonable suspicion of "wannabe" young black men who dress like gang members and thugs

to

gunning them down in the streets.

Your distorted view of reality is pitiful.

Let's put this into perspective.

If you saw a bunch of white guys with nazi tatoos and obvious White Power, Aryan Nation type of dress and mannerisms coming your way down the street or wandering your neighborhood what would you think?

Yes there is a large number of black on black crime and I would assume that the perpetrators are pursued by and arrested by the police. Anonymous, you ask what are Cops supposed to do? George Zimmerman was "NOT" a cop or any member of law enforcement, he was a self annointed police wannabe with no more authority than you or I to detain, pursue or arrest anyone. As far as Trevan Martin knew this 28 year old man who outweighed him by 100 lbs was an attacker. This man was not arrested, evidence collected, firearm taken or the most basic police protocol followed. What was obvious is that he was white and Martin was black so they took his word for it. I had hoped we had moved beyond Mississippi justice. Yes as a white person who lived through the sixties we were profiled by our hair or clothing but I remember none who were shot in the chest because of our clothing but I remember many who were beaten and killed because of their race. To the Zimmerman apologists ask yourself what would have happened if the racial situation had been reversed. George Zimmerman would have been arrested and on his way to death row.

@just sayin'

Anonymous seemed to be responding to that part of your posted comment about young black men being profiled by the cops, not the specific Martin/Zimmerman confrontation in Florida.

Anonymous was simply pointing out why cops are inclined to react the way that they do.

Do you disagree with that logic?

Then you pose the question

If Zimmerman had been black and Martin white would they have arrested Zimmerman?

Probably, and for the same reason that anonymous stated.

Because like it or not, the fact is that young black men are involved in violent crimes and, unfortunately, that reflects on all black men.

Until that changes you are going to have to live with the fact that because of the proliferation of young black gangstas and their criminal inclinations you are going to be suspect.

Not fair, but that's the way it is.

And just a few minor corrections.

Zimmerman is of Hispanic descent, not white as you claim.

You claim that evidence wasn't collected and his firearm wasn't confiscated.

How do you know that?

Because that lyin' race baiting Al Sharpton said so? Don't even go there!!!

The point you miss is that blacks are routinely targeted for no other reason than their race. Blacks are stopped by police for DWB, driving while black, WWB walking while black and are suspect when they walk into a store. If Travan Martin had been white would he have been suspected of criminal activity and followed? If George Zimmerman were black would he have been given benefit of the doubt and allowed to go free?

As someone who remembers the days when blacks were killed and arrested for no other reason than their race this case is neither surprising or shocking.

@ just sayin'

Certainly there has been a large degree of bigotry and racism in this country's history. There is no denying that.

However

The point YOU are so conveniently leaving out is that criminal activity by young black men, particularly violent criminal behavior, is significantly disproprtionate to their percentage of the general population.

What are cops supposed to do?

Ignore that fact in order to be politically correct?

I can remember the time when, if you were a guy and wore your hair long and dressed in bell bottom jeans, tie dye

t-shirts and drove a psychedelically painted van you were targeted by the cops as a ne'er do well, dope smoking, dope dealing hippie up to no good.

Unfortunately, the dope dealing dope smoking criminals had the same look. It didn't matter what color you were or the fact that you were not breaking the law, the cops still focused on you and for good reason.

We hear the same thing from young mideastern men when it comes to being profiled as a potential terrorist.

or

from Hispanic men when it comes to being profiled a being an illegal.

Is it fair? Absolutely not!!!

But the facts are the facts, and it would be irresponsible for anyone to ignore that, particularly our law enforcement officials.

Travvan Martin was NOT a resident of that complex and was just visiting with his Dad. The complex (comprised of at least black and hispanic folks) has had problems in the past. Zimmerman had every reason to be suspicious of the strange young black man roaming about the complex. Put your blather about "the black man can't get no respect" to rest. It holds water no more.

That said...how upset are you when you hear about another young black man shooting and maiming/killing another young black men? You know, going to a weekend party in the hood is a high risk activity for a young black male these days. Don't you care enough to show at least a little "outrage"?

If it is neither surprising or shocking, why is everyone so surprised and shocked? Why is it news? When a black kid kills another black kid, thats when no one is surprised or shocked - thats just the nightly news.

It amazes me how "outraged" everyone becomes over the death of a young black man when someone who is not black is supposedly responsible. Yet, none of these outraged folks ever seem at all alarmed by the fact that the single largest killer of young black men in the US each year IS...other young BLACK MEN.
