Here are events happening this weekend to mark the 150th anniversary of the Great Locomotive Chase. All events are in Marietta, except “Camp McDonald,” which is in Kennesaw. The Marietta Square Farmers’ Market will also be downtown from 9 a.m. to noon today, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

TODAY


10 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Civil War Home Front Days Learn how the “home folks” coped during the war. Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum, Marietta Museum of History, Root House Museum. Cost is regular admission www.gwtwmarietta.com; www.mariettahistory.org; www.cobblandmarks.com

10 a.m. and 2p.m. – “Technology During the Civil War.” Learn how medical and artillery technology was advanced during the war. Marietta Museum of History Cost: $5 www.mariettahistory.org

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. – “A Look at Cobb County’s Black History.” Tours of the Old Zion Heritage Museum www.zionbaptistchurchmarietta.org

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – “Camp McDonald: A Living History Weekend.” Local re-enactment groups will interpret life in Camp McDonald, a Confederate encampment that was located at what is today Kennesaw’s City Hall. The reenactment will be set up on the lawn across from the Southern Museum in Kennesaw. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 4 through 12. Tickets also allow entry into the museum, which will be open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. www.southernmuseum.org

11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – “Look Who’s Talking Now: Living History on the Marietta Square.” Meet people portraying the Andrews Raiders and residents from Marietta’s Civil War History who will share their stories. Glover Park. Free.

11 a.m. and 2 p.m. – Civil War Music Concert. 8th Regiment Band of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry will perform. Glover Park. Free.

11 a.m. – 4 p.m. – “Texas III and Me Tour: From the Rails to the Road.” Enjoy a tour of the Great Locomotive Chase segment from Marietta (Marietta Museum of History in Kennesaw House) to Kennesaw (Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, home of The General). The tour takes place aboard the Texas III, a replica of the original Texas. Tours begin at Glover Park and last 90 minutes. Tour Times: 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Cost is $25 for adults; $20 for seniors and students; $15 for children 12 and under. At 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. short rides will be given around Marietta Square for $2 per person

11 a.m. – 4 p.m. – “Homes & Heroes of The Civil War” exhibit Photographs of homes built before the Civil War and of Civil War soldiers, runs April 7 – Sept. 9 Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art. Cost is regular admission. www.mariettacobbartmuseum.org
